Rock superstar Daughtry has been confirmed as the “Dream Co-Writer” of the American songwriter’s 2022 Lyric Contest.
One lucky and talented winner will win a co-writing session with Daughtry as part of the “Dream Day on Music Row” grand prize, which additionally includes round-trip airfare to Nashville (domestic only), accommodation to Union Station Hotel, and a full one-song demo session. The grand prize winner will also receive a Lifetime American Songwriter Membership and a lifetime subscription to Songcraft Pro.
The winner of the annual lyric contest grand prize is chosen from the group of six bi-monthly contest winners corresponding to each issue in print of the American songwriter in 2021. Former American Songwriter’s Dream co-writers include musical legends and luminaries such as Chris Stapleton, Ashley Monroe, Dallas Davidson, Bobby Braddock, Charlie Worsham, Mary Gauthier, Brent Cobb, Rodney Crowell, Chris Young, Lee Brice, Jim Lauderdale, Hayes Carll, and Elisabeth Cook.
Chris Daughtry, who wrote the hits ‘Home’, ‘It’s Not Over’ and ‘What I Want’, rode his way to stardom as a contestant on the reality show’s fifth season american idol in 2006. He placed fourth on the show, competing against artists such as Taylor Hicks (winner) and Katherine McPhee (runner-up). After the show, he formed the rock band Daughtry and released their self-titled album, which quickly became a best-selling debut rock album (6X platinum) and topped the Billboard charts. In 2008, the band received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Song – “It’s Not Over”.
Daughtry went on to release six studio albums, the most recent being Beloved in 2021. In 2019, he achieved runner-up status in the second season of The Masked Singer as “The Rottweiler”.
