Just like the sacred timeline managed by The One Who Remains, “What if …?” Director Bryan Andrews has said Season 2 of the show is already written, meaning that barring unfortunate circumstances or industry-wide strikes, fans can be sure it’s coming.

“At the start of the second season we’re sticking to the anthology form,” Andrews said. “It’s going to be brand new stories, lots of fun, new heroes, and more of Phase Four than we obviously have been able to this season.”

Andrews also hinted at the doors that may open in Season 2 due to the release of new and upcoming MCU feature films. “We will see allusions to ‘Eternals’ and ‘Shang-Chi’ and the characters from ‘Black Widow’,” he promised. Andrews also noted that his team’s creative freedom with “What if …?” opens doors for the stories they can tell. “We’re not a show designed to set up Avengers 5… When I took on the job, one of my rules was, ‘Let’s be free. “”

Writing is only one of the first steps in producing a TV show, so fans shouldn’t expect Season 2 of “What if …?” to drop soon. It’s probably a long way off, but that’s okay, as there will be plenty of new MCU content to enjoy before it arrives.
