Wonder Man Marvel TV Series Taps Andrew Guest as Head Writer

Wonder Man is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as reports indicate a new show featuring the character is in development for Disney+. According VarietyShang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton will serve as the series’ executive producer, while Andrew Guest will be on board as head writer.

Cretton is familiar with the MCU, having previously served as director and screenwriter for 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The director has also already begun work on a Shang-Chi sequel. We learned last year that Cretton had been hired to develop a new MCU TV series for Disney+. We didn’t know much about the show at the time, besides it would be a comedy.

The comedic angle of the Wonder Man show makes Guest a good fit, as the writer has worked on network comedies like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Community, and 30 Rock before. As for the MCU, Guest served as a producer on the Hawkeye Disney+ series.

Wonder Man is a Marvel Comics character who has yet to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character’s real name is Simon Williams, and he inherits his father’s wealthy business which is falling on hard times thanks to Tony Stark’s company, Stark Industries.

Blaming Stark for his troubles, Williams decides to infiltrate the Avengers with the help of the villainous Baron Heinrich Zemo. He is transformed into an ion-powered superhero and, after a few fights with the Avengers, eventually joins their ranks.
