Irish actress, writer and designer Clare Dunne named European Shooting Star

Clare Dunne, actress of “Herself”, “Kin” and “Annie+”, will be honored at a ceremony in Berlin on February 22.

Irish actress, writer and designer Clare Dunne has been named a Shooting Star in an article published this morning by European Film Promotion (EFP).

Dunne, known for her roles in Close, Se and Anne+ received Best Actress nominations at the Dublin Film Critics Circle Awards, British Independent Film Awards and Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA) in 2021. She won Best Screenplay for an IFTA Film after co-writing Se alongside Malcolm Campbell.

“Huge star potential,” read the VET statement, acknowledging Dunne’s performance in Anne+ – which she co-created with Hanna van Vliet – as “full of life and remarkably likeable, imbued with a keen sense of precision, sensitivity and authenticity”.

Dunne was delighted with the news, thanking Screen Ireland on social media today. “I can’t wait to meet these talented people in Berlin!” the actress wrote on her Instagram Story, referencing her fellow recipients.

In addition to Dunne, nine other talented creatives from across Europe have been nominated; including Gracija Filipović from Croatia, Marie Reuther from Denmark, Anamaria Vartolomei from France and Emilio Sakraya from Germany. The award ceremony will take place at the Berlinale Palast in Berlin on February 22.

Comprised of five international film and television experts, the EFP Jury selects Shooting Stars based on their previous projects and performances, recognizing their career prospects in the international industry. They have been recognizing young actors for over 20 years.

Previous recipients of the award are Daniel Craig and Carey Mulligan, as well as IFTA winner Fionn O’Shea (normal people, Amber Dating), Aisling Franciosi, Domhnall Gleeson and BAFTA winner Andrew Scott.
